MARAT ASSASSINÉ - EN Catherine Defeyt ET Pierre-Yves Desaive

Since 1893, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium have owned the masterpiece of Jacques Louis David Marat assassinated (1793). In order to testify to the central position that this canvas occupies in the advent of modern art, an exhibition offers an unprecedented approach to David´s work: by bringing together different copies and variants of the painting as well as some contemporary interpretations, it combines a look both historical and aesthetic but also a scientific approach by presenting to the general public the results of a research campaign that mobilized laboratory examinations conducted by the European Center for Archaeometry of the University of Liège.
